Next, for the sun: 5 countries where you can go at the end of winter
If you are already tired of snow, cold and constant lack of sun, then direct your gaze abroad. And to make your trip bright, warm and memorable, we have found several win-win and relevant areas. You will only have to choose the most interesting option and attend to the purchase of tickets.
What to do: visit Geronimos, climb to the highest observation deck of Señor do Monte and make stunning pictures, ride on the old tram, taking place in the old trailer of the long “tourist” route № 28 (it passes through the most picturesque areas of the city).
The capital, the largest city and the main port of Portugal is beautiful at any time of the year, but at the end of winter there is an incredibly low season, so you can safely walk around the city, see the main attractions and book a table in any restaurant you like, without encountering a crowd of annoying tourists. And do not forget to look into the pastry shop Pasteis de Belém, which serves incredible culinary masterpieces (only the famous cakes “Pâté de belé” worth it!). In the evening, head to the Ribeira promenade, which offers stunning views of the sunset over Lisbon.
What to do: throw a coin in the famous Trevi Fountain (just do not forget to make a wish), visit the Colosseum and the Roman forum, try the Roman ice cream (it is really incredible) and the famous pizza.
In February, the Eternal city is already warm enough, but it is not crowded, so you can safely walk around the Vatican and admire the Sistine chapel (many know that the rest of the year it is quite problematic to do because of the large influx of tourists). Also go up to one of the many viewing platforms to admire the city and take some interesting photos. For example, the most famous panorama is the view from the dome of St. Peter’s Cathedral. And be sure to take a look at the Pantheon, stroll through the most “Italian” Trastevere area and arrange a romantic walk through the Villa Borghese, which is a beautiful Park.
What to do: go to the Opera, feel the rhythms of Strauss waltzes and brilliant melodies of Beethoven and Mozart, enjoy the fragrant coffee notes and the heady smell of young wine coming from the vineyards of Greening.
And let in Vienna in February is not as warm as, say, in Rome, but there is also something to see. For example, admire the city from the height of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, walk through the oldest zoo in the world, which, for a moment, is located on the territory of the beautiful Palace and Park ensemble in Schönbrunn. And you should definitely look into the Park Prater to ride on the rides and again feel happy carefree child.
What to do: walk on the four Central bridges of Budapest, improve your health in the thermal baths, climb the dome of the Basilica of St. Stephen, ride on the oldest metro line on the continent.
The capital of Hungary is famous for its healing and mineral water, as well as architecture, so in February you will have something to do there. In addition, we recommend to taste the Hungarian national cuisine and learn, for example, that goulash — it can be soup. And if you want a comfortable ride in the city center, then look for the tram number 2, which runs through the entire center of Budapest along the Danube (on the side of pest). And since most of the attractions of the city is located along the banks of the mighty river (or perfectly visible from the waterfront), you will see most of the beauty in one trip.
What to do: be sure to go to the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the archaeological Museum Kerameikos, Hadrian Library and the Roman Agora, walk around the city and remember all the legends and myths of Ancient Greece.
Athens — one of the best tour cities, incredibly cozy and beautiful metropolis. In February, it is already warm enough, so nothing will prevent you from enjoying the beauty of the capital of ancient Greece. Start your acquaintance with the city from Eolu street (street of Winds), where the historical center of Athens begins. Shoppers are advised to look at the famous Erma street, where many beautiful shops and boutiques are concentrated. Then take the street to the Monastiraki and Plaka, offering beautiful views of the Acropolis. Be sure to take the time to visit the Acropolis and the Parthenon and of course the New Acropolis Museum. Explore Syntagma square, the Greek Parliament, Lycavitos, museums and monuments, and climb to the Church of St. George, which is located on the top of the hill, and enjoy the beautiful views of Athens. Local residents say that they are the most beautiful pictures of the city.
